Writing Workshop: Where to Begin, How to Begin
February 25, 2020, 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM
FreeProfessor Michael Burke of Colby College will lead this two-hour creative nonfiction writing workshop called “Where to Begin, How to Begin.”
Any piece of writing has to begin somewhere of course, but how do you know where to start, and how to start? In this creative nonfiction writing workshop, we’ll talk about what the opening of an essay or any piece of nonfiction tells us about what is to follow, and discuss a variety of options a writer might have for where and how to begin. Examples from professional models will be considered.
Participants should come to the session with an idea for a story they want to write, and be prepared to do some drafting on it during the session (which may or may not be shared with the group, depending on one’s willingness to share).
This session is appropriate for anyone 18 and older. Participants should bring something to write on and with: laptop, iPad, pad of paper, etc. The workshop is free, but advance registration is required and seating is limited to 20 participants. The snow date will be Thursday, 2/27.
Location: Large Print Room, Waterville Public Library.
