Join us as author and historian, Earl Smith talks to us about the many inventions that come about here in Waterville! Most people know about the Lombard Tractor, but not many know of the impact that specific item had on the country and world. This should be a fascinating lecture that you won’t want to miss!
Earl is Waterville native and a graduate of the University of Maine. He served as an administrator at Colby for 40+ years, including as Dean of Students, Dean of College, and as an assistant to three Colby presidents. In that time, he served on the Waterville City Council, School Board, and as a member of the Maine Legislature.
On retirement, he wrote Mayflower Hill, a history of Colby published by the University Press of New England in 2004, and a shorter history of the Colby Art Museum, with the help of friends, published in 2009. He wrote three works of fiction, and then in 2018 he published Water Village, the first history of Waterville since 1902.
