REM Award Honorees (2003) — Karen DeRosby (Rape Crisis Assistance and Prevention)
It gives us all great pride to introduce Karen DeRosby as our Volunteer of the Year. Karen began helping us as an office volunteer and she has been instrumental behind the scenes of the last two productions of the Vagina Monologues at Colby College. She has dedicated entire weekends to community outreach events, as well as independently planning and hosting a fundraising event when our agency was having financial difficulty.
Last winter she completed our Volunteer Advocate training and has since accumulated more than 1,000 on-call hours on the Helpline! Karen has never failed to respond professionally and compassionately to a Helpline call or hospital accompaniment. She has truly been an angel in our eyes. We are blessed to have her support and friendship.
Karen resides in Waterville with her husband David, son Garrett, and daughter Amelia.
Note: Unfortunately, due to a lack of funding, Rape Crisis Assistance and Prevention closed for good on December 31, 2008.
