REM Award Honorees (2003) — Kathy Corey (Waterville Business and Professional Women)

The Waterville Business and Professional Women proudly honor Kathy Corey as their volunteer of the year.

Kathy’s community involvement centers on the local economy, helping to create positive change in Waterville’s downtown. Currently she serves on the boards of directors of the Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce, the Waterville Regional Arts and Community Center, Waterville Main Street, the Waterville Development Corporation, and Inland Hospital. She has previously served on the advisory committee of the Central Kennebec Valley Growth Council and as membership chair of Waterville Business and Professional Women.

Last year, the Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce presented Kathy with the prestigious Elias A. Joseph Award. She was quoted at that time: “If people care about their communities and want to see results, then get involved . . .  Volunteerism in an organization like the [C]hamber is the backbone of it. Without volunteers, without creative ideas of individuals, we won’t be able to move forward.” Kathy believes that a healthy downtown and a caring community encourage growth in the entire region.

Kathy, her husband Jeffery, and partner Mark Ford are owners of six Day’s Jewelers stores in Maine and New Hampshire. Kathy is a long-time member of the Women’s Jewelry Association. Kathy and Jeff have been in business on Waterville’s Main Street since 1983, and have raised their three children in this community.

Kathy’s recreational activities include sailing, skiing, running, gardening and travel.
