Easy Rider

October 15, 2019, 7:15 PM9:00 PM

$6.50

With the Maine International Film Festival’s past Midlife Achievement Award Winner Peter Fonda’s recent passing, we lost a truly unique talent who also emblemized an era. It’s 50 years since the release of Easy Rider, a movie that galvanized a generation. “A Man Went Looking for America. And Couldn’t Find It” was the film’s tag line at the time. It was a search that Fonda, his partner in a cross-country motorcycle trip from L.A. east, played by Dennis Hopper, and a dropout lawyer who joins them along the way (introducing a wide audience to Jack Nicholson for the first time) took to a blazing rock soundtrack that was to change the way that movies were made in the U.S.A. “Fonda and Hopper’s now classic film hit the old guard like a rifle shot to the head”—Marjorie Baumgarden, Austin Chronicle. Arguably, it also began a generation’s self-mythologization. Presented here in a digitally restored print. (R, 95 min.)
