An event every week that begins at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, repeating until September 25, 2024

Free

“In the News” is a weekly event series dedicated to sparking dialogue among visiting speakers and Colby students from diverse disciplines. Every Wednesday from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, students will gather in Page Commons for food and insightful conversations with leading practitioners and thought leaders. Together, we tackle pressing topics in politics, policy, and the press. Our speakers bring firsthand insights and practical wisdom about issues that resonate with our student body. We hope attendees will leave with a deeper understanding, a fresh perspective, or even a transformed viewpoint.

September’s topics and speakers are:

  • Sept. 4: “Facebook Fried Your Parents' Brains. Are You next?” with Dexter Thomas
  • Sept. 11: “Crisis and Consequence: Reflections on January 6 and the Future of the Republican Party” with Marc Short
  • Sept. 18: “Who Says Business and Politics Don’t Mix?” with Mike Federle ’81 and Dan Kleban
  • Sept. 25: “Politics of the Past and Politics of the Future: Threats of Autocracy at Home and Abroad” with Masha Gessen

Although admission to these discussions is free, reservations are recommended. Please note: These events student-focused. Only students will be allowed to ask questions during the Q&A session. A livestream will also be available for each discussion.
