Official Opening of Light Sentinels Temporary Art Installation

July 12

Free

After an initial delay, we are excited to announce Light Sentinels by Skunk Control will officially open in Castonguay Square in Waterville on Friday, July 12, in conjunction with the opening night of the Maine International Film Festival and Waterville Rocks.

Light Sentinels, crafted by the Australian-based creative team Skunk Control, consists of 10 towering (16–20 feet) kinetic flower-based sculptures. These sculptures captivate viewers by dynamically unfurling and closing their petals, projecting vibrant and continually evolving colored light shadows over the surrounding landscape. Skunk Control is the 2024 award recipient for Waterville Creates’ Call for Proposals (CFP) Temporary Public Art.

Presented with major support from the Harold Alfond Foundation. Additional support provided by PRO Moving Service and the City of Waterville.
