Russian Expansionism Then And Now

Come to hear leading experts on the subject use a major historical event, the Soviet-led invasion of Czechoslovakia in August 1968, as a gateway to discuss a key geopolitical issue today: the rise of Russia and resurgence of Russian expansionism.

Josef Pazderka is a Czech journalist, author, and editor-in-chief of, a leading Czech news server. He served as Czech TV foreign news correspondent in Russia and Poland, covering the 2013-2015 crisis in Ukraine, including the Maidan Square demonstrations and the Russian annexation of Crimea. He will be joined by Mark Kramer, Director of Cold War Studies and Senior Fellow at Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies, Harvard University, and by Igor Lukes, Professor of International Relations and History at Boston University and author of numerous prize-winning books on the interwar period, the Cold War, and contemporary developments in East Central Europe and Russia. Assistant Professor Milan Babík (Government) will moderate.
