Shakespeare’s 452nd Birthday Bash

April 23, 2016, 10:00 AM10:00 PM

Free

You are invited to celebrate Shakespeare’s 452nd birthday “with pomp, with triumph and with reveling.” Join Recycled Shakespeare Company for some or all of the day as we read all 154 of Shakespeare’s sonnets, perform skits, and sing songs. This is a family friendly event. All ages are welcome to watch and participate.

Starting at 10:00 a.m., we will have a sword demonstration at the amphitheater in the Concourse. From 11:00 to 1:30, we will parade from there to Silver Street and up Main Street. We will be singing Shakespearean songs and reading his sonnets. We stop into local businesses to share Shakespeare’s work with the employees and patrons. We will end our parade at Selah Tea where we continue from 2:00 to 7:00 with sonnet reading, skits, songs, and merriment.

Sign up to read your favorite sonnet, or … ask for a sonnet to read if you don’t have a favorite, by calling 207-314-8607 or emailing recycledshakespeare@gmail.com. Let Emily Rowden Fournier, producer, know what time you would like to read as well, so we can put together a schedule.

Don’t know if you will be available that day? Don’t worry, if you come we will have sonnets available for you to read. Grab your floppy hat and your poets shirt, your neck ruff and your farthingale. Costumes are always encouraged, but not required.

Join us at 7:30 p.m. for a Masquerade Ball at Blue Wave Studio. Grab a mask and your fanciest duds. Instructors Marge Bartlett and her husband, from the Society of Creative Anachronism, will teach easy and fun Medieval/Renaissance dances. Come with a partner or by yourself. Some masks will be available, but supplies are limited, so get creative.
