Shield and Spear (2014) features visual activist Zanele Muholi and other leading South African contemporary artists and explores a constellation of stories about identity, art, race, and freedom of expression in South Africa, twenty years into democracy. This screening is presented in conjunction with the exhibition Zanele Muholi: Somnyama Ngonyama, Hail the Dark Lioness, on view at the Colby College Museum of Art through June 9, 2019. The film will be introduced by the Colby College Museum of Art Lunder Curator of American Art, Beth Finch. (Unrated, 89 min.)
