Strengthening Maine’s Civic Life

October 23, 11:00 AM12:00 PM

Free

You are invited to join us for the unveiling of Strengthening Maine’s Civic Life: Trust, Belonging, and the Future, a new report produced by the Goldfarb Center, Public Engagement Partners, and the Maine Community Foundation that gauges the health of civic life in Maine.

The new study, which analyzed census data and also draws on a recent original survey of over 1,000 Maine residents, provides insight into the state’s civic health in in eight areas: trust in government and each other; feelings of belonging and mattering; perceptions of community climate; the state of civic knowledge; voting; volunteering; civic awareness and participation, and, finally, hope for the future. As Election Day approaches, this research offers opportunities to understand what is on the mind of Mainers, how they understand their democracy, and the hopes they have for the future of their state.

We’ll share more details about some of the highlights in the report, including:

  • Mainers’ hopes for the future, including the future of the nation and democracy
  • Differences in the level of Mainers’ trust in government at the local, state, and national levels
  • The challenges and benefits Mainers see in regards to the influx of new people moving to the state
  • Maine’s status as a leader in voting participation and Mainers’ perspectives on whether the upcoming presidential vote will be counted accurately.

The report unveiling will take place via Zoom. Please RSVP to attend using this link and in order to receive the Zoom meeting information. The full report will be made available immediately following the presentation at https://goldfarbcenter.colby.edu/news-updates/.

We hope you can join us for this upcoming event!
