Sunrise Seminar

FreeProduced during the multi-year period when cinema converted to sound recording, F.W. Murnau’s Sunrise provides remarkable insights into the history of cinema. In this seminar and discussion which follows the film’s screening at the Waterville Opera House, participants will explore silent film cinematography and storytelling, the development of a truly international art cinema, emerging conceptions of film sound design, and film industry economics amidst technological change. The seminar will be led by Steve Wurtzler, author of "Electric Sounds: Technological Change and the Rise of Corporate Mass Media" and director of Cinema Studies at Colby College.
