Volunteer Recruitment Fair
September 20, 2016, 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM
FreeLooking to help out in your community, but not sure where the opportunities are? The Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter and Reach & Rise are looking for your help:
Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter
The Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter depends on volunteers. If you would like to make new friends, have fun, help others and join our vibrant team in the very rewarding work of ending homelessness, please come see us at the Volunteer Recruitment Fair.
The Mission of the Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter is to end homelessness in Mid-Maine one person, one family, one child at a time. We provide more than just a bed and a meal for our guests. Guests are paired up with one of our in-house case managers to create an action plan to obtain stable housing and prevent homelessness in the future.
In the past year, the Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter provided a temporary home for 391 people, with 1 in every 4 guests being children under the age of 18. 90% of our guests who obtained housing while in the shelter are still stably housed one year later.

Reach & Rise® Mentoring Program
Reach & Rise supports youth ages 6 to 17 who lack role models and are in communities challenged by poverty, crime and single-parent households, among other social issues. As a mentor, you can provide a positive and consistent relationship with a young person, helping to improve your mentee’s self-esteem, decision-making skills, school performance and interpersonal relationships.
By sharing your time and guidance, you can help your mentee express feelings, have a positive outlook for the future, become more confident and improve at school. You'll learn how to be a positive role model and gain a better perspective of the pressures and challenges that youth face.
