REM Award Honorees (2017) — Margo Beach (Inland Hospital)

Five years ago, Inland was blessed to have Margo Beach walk through our door to ask about volunteering. We never let go, and Inland staff, patients and families are the better for it!

Margo had just moved back to Waterville after retiring from a 30-year career as a school psychologist in Connecticut. As a proud fourth generation Colby graduate, she was excited to return to her roots here. She started looking for a volunteer opportunity right away so that she could contribute to her community. One of her close friends was already a volunteer at Inland, so Margo was familiar with the organization and she liked its culture of safety and service.

Margo’s main volunteer role has been as a greeter at the front lobby Information Desk — one of our very important positions because it’s the place people get their first impression of Inland. Margo is a smiling, helpful presence and helps elevate the patient experience for every person she greets. She has also volunteered at Lakewood for the annual May Day Auction, and at the Maine Children’s Home for Little Wanderers and the Waterville Opera House.

Maggie Simpson, Inland Director of Volunteer Services notes, “Margo is an inspiration to all of us and we are grateful for her service to our volunteer program, our patients, staff and visitors at Inland Hospital.”

“Inland is a wonderful hospital,” Margo says with a gentle smile. “Its small size makes for a more personal experience for people. The staff is very friendly as well, all of which makes for a very pleasant atmosphere in which to be involved. I love volunteering at Inland!”
