A conversation with Visiting Assistant Professor of English Jamison Kantor and Curator of Academic Programs Shalini Le Gall examining the echoes of Romantic literature visible in Cameron’s “Heaven” (1864), a recent acquisition to the Colby Museum of Art.

Join the Colby Museum for our new Educator Evenings! Network with fellow educators while learning about current exhibitions, artists, and works in the Museum’s collection. Refreshments will be served. Attendees will receive contact hours for certification.

Mark Leighton, guitar, will perform music composed for, transcribed by, or reintroduced into the repertoire by Andrés Segovia during a career that spanned nearly the entire 20th century. Included will be compositions by J.S. Bach, Issac Albeniz, Heitor Villa-Lobos, and Francisco Tarrega. Organized by the Colby Music Department.

Theresa Secord, founding member of the Maine Indian Basketmakers Alliance and a nationally recognized, award-winning artist, will share her traditional weaving. Attendance to this workshop is limited to 25 and preregistration is required. To register, call 859-5613.

In conjunction with the Human/Nature humanities theme, a screening of Christian Marclay's Telephones (1995) and Bollywood Goes to Gstaad (2013). Steve Wurtzler, associate professor of cinema studies, will introduce Marclay's works and lead a post-screening discussion. Heidi Powell (baroque violin), Timothy Burris (lute and theorbo), and Raffael Scheck (baroque cello) perform baroque music by Bach, Corelli, Handel, and de Marzis on period instruments.

Pamela Fletcher, professor of art history at Bowdoin, will speak about the commercial and cultural environment in which James McNeill Whistler's work circulated. Fletcher teaches courses on British art and exhibition culture and coedited the book The Rise of the Modern Art Market in London, 1850-1939.

In conjunction with Waterville Creates! and the Maine Crafts Association, take a tour of the Museum collection to view the many depictions of the face in art, then make your own mask.

Jessica May, chief curator of the Portland Museum of Art, will moderate a panel discussion with faculty artists Bradley Borthwick, Bevin Engman, Gary Green, Garry Mitchell, and Scott Reed.
