The Spring Open House is a celebration of two new exhibitions that will be on view during the Spring 2020 semester—Hew Locke: Here’s the Thing and The Sea in a Jug: The Welch Collection of Islamic and Later Indian Art—featuring live music, demonstrations, hands-on art-making, gallery experiences, refreshments, and opportunities to learn about upcoming programs.

After a brief exploration of the museum, we will read a children’s book related to the month’s theme—in January it will be “Green Living.” Afterward, preschoolers, toddlers, and their grownups will visit the Mirken Education Classroom to have a snack and create their own works of art. Spain of the 1860s was a hotbed of guitar activity, both for composers and for guitar builders like Antonio de Torres Jurado. The concert will include works by Antonio Cano, Tomás Damas, and José Viñas. Burris will perform on a copy of an 1864 Torres guitar.
