REM Award Honorees (2018) — David Witham (MaineGeneral Medical Center)
David Witham represents a proud tradition of volunteerism across MaineGeneral. In 2017, our volunteers gave more than 43,500 hours of service.
We can describe David with one word … committed. David began volunteering for MaineGeneral in December, 2015. As a former MaineGeneral security officer, he has an astounding prospective of what is needed at the hospital. David volunteers both at the Welcome Desk and in our Emergency Department giving on average twelve hours per week at the Thayer Center for Health.
At the welcome desk he is a friendly face and a helpful hand when you walk in the door. As a member of the volunteering team, we have seen him sit with a person who was very confused to support them until their ride arrived. He did so without being asked or told, he only saw a person in need.
David has been recognized by the Emergency Department staff as not only helpful but also essential to keep the program running. During a recent busy time, David went above and beyond staying extra time in order to make sure every patient was seen. He is always that calming voice to make an uncertain situation that much better.
We are thankful to have David as part of our team and grateful for his dedication to MaineGeneral Thayer Campus.
