REM Award Honorees (2018) — Jean Sawyer (Maine Children’s Home)
The Maine Children’s Home for Little Wanderers is thrilled to honor long-time volunteer, Jean Sawyer.
Jean first started volunteering for the Maine Children’s Home in 2001 when a friend invited her to join The Friends of The Maine Children’s Home. Jean jumped right in helping with the Christmas Program, which serves Maine Children in need with vital warm clothes, hats, scarves, mittens, pajamas, books and toys. Jean has done a great deal of shopping for the Christmas Program over the years and always finds the best “After Christmas” sales to help restock for the next year.
Jean was President of Friends of The Maine Children’s Home for two years and started the annual Yard Sale Fundraiser to help send children in need to Summer camps. Jean has also helped with the Annual Lobster Roll Bag Lunch fundraiser both selling many lunches and putting the delicious rolls together. Jean has also shared her wonderful culinary skills at many gatherings, receptions and meals for the Sharon Abrams Teen Parent School Program, for events and for the Maine Children’s Home Staff and Board.
Jean recently completed her first three-year term on the Board of Directors of The Maine Children’s Home for Little Wanderers, having served the past two years as Secretary. Jean is a tireless advocate for the programs of The Maine Children’s Home.
Jean states that she is so devoted because “[e]ach Program at MCH has a special place in my heart, as they serve our families from birth to adults.”
