Many of us are lamenting the limitations of travel this summer. Thankfully we live in a state of extreme beauty with many fascinating places to visit. Here at Waterville Creates!, we realize there are numerous destinations off the beaten path where we can explore Maine’s incredible art, artists, and natural landscape. The On the Road series is designed to explore areas that are art destinations in their own right and/or sites where we can create our own works of art.
This week we will travel to the very special Fieldstone Gardens in Vassalboro. Steve Jones founded Fieldstone Gardens in 1984 as the fourth generation at his family’s farm in Vassalboro. Originally settled by the Jones family in the 1880s, Fieldstone Gardens includes 10 acres of exquisite gardens, a 250-acre sustainable tree farm, apple orchard, lilac collection, retail store, landscaped fields and ponds, and remarkable examples of New England stone walls. The nursery includes extensive garden displays that feature perennial borders and shade gardens as well as specimen trees and shrubs.
Join us as we meet the folks at Fieldstone Gardens and explore land art as an activity for future visits to Fieldstone.
