REM Award Honorees (2003) — Amy Bailey (Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter)

The Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter has been serving the homeless and displaced of Central Maine for over ten years. Initially an all-volunteer venture, the shelter now employs three full-time and five part-time staff.

Nonetheless, volunteers remain a vital part of the organization. Without the dedication of the volunteer Board of Directors and community members who selflessly donate their time, money, and in-kind goods, the shelter would not exist today. Without special volunteers, such as Amy Bailey, the shelter could not function.

Amy Bailey is a resident of Winslow, Maine. Amy met Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter, Executive Director Susan Goss during their employment with the Kennebec County District Attorney’s Office. Since then Amy and Sue have been great friends.

Amy now works for the State of Maine as a legal secretary at the Attorney General’s Office. Amy enjoys working in the criminal justice system. Amy enjoys the outdoors and nature. Her hobbies include hiking, biking and many other outdoor adventures.

Amy has been volunteering at the shelter for approximately seven years with the many fundraisers and functions. Amy has been chosen as this year’s Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter Volunteer of the Year for always being there and willing to lend a hand when needed. Amy has always responded positively and unselfishly. Her “behind the scenes” assistance to the shelter is deeply appreciated.
