REM Award Honorees (2006) — Sally Ann Parks (Waterville Business and Professional Women)

The Waterville BPW congratulates Sally Ann Parks as its REM Community Volunteer Honoree for 2006. She joined the Waterville BPW in 1969 and has served in almost all offices and committee chair positions, including two years as chapter president. She served as editor of the BPW/Maine publication for three years, chairs of several committees, vice president, president-elect and BPW/Maine president 1985-1986. She received the Waterville BPW and BPW/Maine Member of the Year Award in 1992.

Sally Ann co-chaired the original Futurama Arts and Crafts Fair, which was held in Augusta for many years and showcased small, women-owned businesses and provided funding for scholarship program. Additional activities include being instrumental in the formation of BPW/ME Futurama Foundation, and being a trustee for many years as well as serving as secretary for the foundation.

She has been chair of the Maine Women’s Hall of Fame for sixteen years. The Hall of Fame was established in 1990 by BPW/ME. It is dedicated to women whose achievements have significant statewide impact, significantly improve the lives of women in Maine, and have enduring value for women. The Hall of Fame is located in the Bennett Katz Library at the University of Maine in Augusta. Sally Ann is a member-at-large of AAUW, member of Victor Grange, and was member and president of the Bangor-Waterville chapter of National Association of Accountants.

She was born in Waterville, Maine, the daughter of the late Harold W. and Eva T. Connor; graduated from Lawrence High School as valedictorian, from Colby College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business, and from the University of Maine at Orono with a Masters in Business Administration.

She and Larry, her husband of thirty-two years, continue to live at the Connor family home in Hinckley. They enjoy challenge level square dancing, traveling to such places as Hawaii four times (including their honeymoon), Nashville, San Diego, Bermuda, hosting family gatherings at their camp on Three Mile Pond, and camping at Sebago Lake and Baxter State Parks.

Sally Ann has worked in the office for Wyandotte Industries and C.F. Hathaway Company before having her own personnel agency in downtown Waterville for fifteen years. She started working for the Department of Commerce, Bureau of the Census, in 1990 where she is a field representative and interviewer.
