REM Award Honorees (2006) — Arne Springorum (Kennebec Messalonskee Trails)
KMTrails is proud to honor Arne Springorum as its 2006 volunteer of the year.
Arne is not a long-time resident of this area. He came here first in 1989 as an exchange student in Winslow High School. After studies in Germany, Britain, and France, and with other experiences in Poland, Yugoslavia, the Czech Republic and Mexico, he has been with us since 2002, working as a hydrogeologist at Emery & Garrett Groundwater’s office in downtown Waterville.
During that time he has been a model for community service and involvement. For Kennebec Messalonskee Trails, Arne was our youngest Director, and has been enthusiastically responsible for the development of our membership brochure, trails maps, and the layout of our newsletter. He also loves to take his family exploring along the trails, and hopes that you will follow his lead.
His mapping efforts will be there for you to use in next year’s edition of the Big Yellow Pages, where, for the first time, we will have trail guides to give directions for everyone, including you, your family, friends and neighbors.
