REM Award Honorees (2008) — Jeff Melanson (Kennebec Messalonskee Trails)
Kennebec Messalonskee Trails is pleased to honor Jeff Melanson as its Volunteer of the Year for 2008. This award is long overdue for the many hours of service this dedicated individual has provided to KMT and to the communities of the Waterville area.
Jeff served as on the Board of Directors of KMT for four years. Although no longer acting in that capacity, he continues to provide much needed assistance by participating as a member of the Public Relations Committee for the trails organization. Putting together Kennebec Messalonskee Trails’ semi-annual newsletter, Trail Blazings, is just one of the chores he handles so competently.
Available both in electronic and printed formats, the newsletter keeps the membership and the general public informed as the many activities and programs offered by KMT. Professionally compiled and presented, Trail Blazings is an integral part of the effort of the PR Committee to make the story of Kennebec Messalonskee Trails come alive.
Jeff also becomes truly the face of KMT at the many fairs and shows over the past years, where he has been a volunteer staffer at the organization’s informational display. Given the job of gathering information for handouts, chatting with fair-goers looking for details on the role of KMT, or just being the guy who puts up and takes down the display, Jeff is a perfect good-will ambassador and advocate for trails.
