REM Award Honorees (2015) — Sandra Hammond (Waterville Food Bank)
Sandra Hammond (Sandy) started volunteering at the food bank for a special event where we needed extra help, the U.S. Post Office Letter Carrier’s Food Drive.
She quickly converted to a regularly scheduled volunteer, distributing food to our clients a couple times a month. When our purchasing agent retired, she quickly stepped forward to fill that role.
Sandy then agreed to join the board of directors. As she took on more and more responsibilities we found that we needed to change her title to match what she was doing and we made her the operations manager.
She has been integral in many improvements including a substantial increase in our hours that we are open to serve clients. A self-starter, Sandy is always looking for new ways to help fulfill our mission to help the neediest in our community. She clearly shines because of her commitment and her attitude.
The Waterville Food Bank is a much stronger agency thanks to the hard work and dedication of Sandra Hammond. She is certainly representative of our many volunteers who happily give time to help our neighbors in need.
We note that this is the second time Sandra Hammond has won a REM award for a community service agency. The Waterville Food Bank is very proud to choose her as its REM award recipient for 2015.
