Join the Children's Museum Membership Drive
Exciting news! The new exhibit hall is slated to open in June, and we can't wait for you and your family to come play!
We are excited to launch our Founding Members campaign, with extra special perks for families who prepurchase a Family Membership to the museum before the end of June.
And if that wasn't enough, your membership purchase will also help us reach our fundraising goals! We need your help!
A major donor has pledged $200,000 to finish the Children’s Discovery Museum’s capital campaign if 300 new members join between now and September 1. Every new membership unlocks a portion of this grant funding!
What Can You Expect in the New Museum Exhibit Hall?
The Children's Discovery Museum is in the process of fabricating brand-new exhibits for our Exhibit Hall! These state-of-the-art installations were developed by our experienced team alongside designer Rusty Lamar of Field Magnet Design, LLC. Our team worked with Rusty, who has years of experience designing whimsical public installations and children's exhibits, to create exhibits that spark a child's curiosity and invite them to play and discover, incorporating a mixture of opportunities for imaginative play, cause-and-effect experimentation, tinkering, dreaming, building relationships and more!
Here are some of our favorite exhibits:
City Hub
Our largest exhibit, this whimsical and interactive two-story Main Street structure combines a world of make-believe with realistic city scenarios. Children can explore the built environment and the social connections that emerge from it. This playful exhibit zone includes exhibits like a farmers market, auto shop, post office, hardware store, roof top garden, alleyway, and even a sewer tunnel!
Boulder Pits and Forts
Nestled in the back of the museum, this area provides an opportunity for visitors to construct their own cozy habitats and homes using various building materials, fabrics, beanbags, builder boards, and more.
Mill MakerSpace
Inspired by old Maine Mills, this exhibit celebrates STEM learning with exploration of force and motion through manipulating objects, operating simple machines, and inventing gadgets. The Timber Frame invites children to explore three Maine mill industries – paper, textiles, and shoe-making.
