International Economic And Workforce Expert Anthony Carnevale

Internationally recognized economist and workforce expert Anthony P. Carnevale, Ph.D., will speak at Thomas College about the critically important role of higher education in strengthening the Maine workforce.

Thomas College will host a breakfast on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 7:30 a.m. in the Spann Student Commons on the Thomas College campus in Waterville. Dr. Carnevale, director of the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce, will speak from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. There is no charge, but registration is required. This event marks the public launch of a research initiative being led by the Thomas College board, president, and a group of local business leaders, with the support of the Harold Alfond Foundation. The goal of the initiative is to determine how Thomas can create training and educational programs to better meet the needs of entrepreneurs, small and family-led businesses in central Maine, and provide leadership, personal and professional development to create a world-class workforce in the region.

Carnevale is an authority on education, training and employment. He was appointed by President Clinton as chairman of the National Commission on Employment Policy and appointed by President George W. Bush to serve on the White House Commission on Technology and Adult Education. He earned a B.A. from Colby College and his Ph.D. in public finance economics from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University. Carnevale has served as research professor and director of the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce since it was created in 2008.
