On the Road: Canaan Farmers Hall

June 25, 2020, 3:00 PM4:00 PM

Free

Many of us are lamenting the limitations of travel this summer. Thankfully we live in a state of extreme beauty with many fascinating places to visit. Here at WC!, we realize there are numerous destinations off the beaten path where we can explore Maine’s incredible art, artists, and natural landscape. The On the Road series is designed to explore areas that are art destinations in their own right and/or sites where we can create our own works of art.

This week we will travel to a Grange hall built in 1898. The residents of Canaan, Maine built the historic building on Main Street known to all as the Canaan Grange Hall.

In 2011, a local non-profit group was formed. This group’s goal was to acquire, renovate and update the former Canaan Grange Hall for the benefit of the greater Canaan Community. This hall is fully handicap accessible, one of the only old Grange halls to have an elevator in all of Somerset and Kennebec counties!

Renamed the Canaan Farmers Hall, it serves as a central gathering place in the community for programs and events that promote public and civic pride. The hall has been used for weddings and receptions, contra dances, art shows,  mystery dinner plays, musical performances, stage shows, quilt shows, Sunday dinners, lectures, meetings, children’s events, and storytelling.

Join us as we meet some of the people on the Farmers Hall board and explore a beautifully vibrant grange hall in Maine. We will make a drawing of the building during our visit!
