Mid-Maine Global Forum update

November 2020
Dear Friends of the Mid-Maine Global Forum,

On behalf of the Mid-Maine Global Forum Board of Directors I would like to thank you for your continued interest and support for our programs. This 24th year of providing continuing education and enrichment on international topics to the people of mid-Maine has been a challenging one. Our Spring 2020 line up was cancelled or postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This Fall we began to offer our enrichment programs to you via Zoom. I hope you were able to tune into our September program featuring the Colby 2020 Oak Human Rights Fellow, Nasim Lomani, speaking on migrants’ rights, and also our joint program with the Margaret Chase Smith Library in October with Doctor Lora Pitman on the role of women in global security issues.

We hope you will join us for our next program via Zoom, December 14th, at noon with George Ritz, speaking on the healthcare of the indigenous people of Paraguay, a co-sponsored program with the Waterville Rotary. You will receive an email regarding registration for this program.

If you missed our October program (the Leeke-Shaw lecture of the MCS library, you can access it
here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7ssiWAHoX4&t=467s.

I would like to thank those of you who contributed to the Linda Cotter annual speaker fund that was initiated this year. Your generosity will make it possible to offer excellent summer dinner programs for years to come. Our first Linda Cotter speaker will be Ambassador Dennis Ross (summer 2021-- exact date to be determined).

The Global Forum did not hold a membership drive this year, but we would be grateful if you would consider giving a year-end charitable donation. We are a small grassroots organization and in lieu of fundraising events we depend on your generosity and support.

Thank you ever so much!
Mary Benziger and the Board of Directors, MMGF
