REM Award Honorees (2001) — Susan Palumbo (Waterville Opera House)
Not many people have encountered angels in their everyday lives. We at the Waterville Opera House have been fortunate to mingle with them on a regular basis. Our volunteers are the angels that keep our doors open. Without them the show would not go on. From selling tickets to washing costumes, getting food and decorating displays, answering phones and helping people to their seats, we are graced by their presence. Whenever we see a need, the first call we make is to Sue Palumbo.
As a wife, mother, and nurse, Sue’s life is already full and her family and the community benefit greatly from her always loving and cheerful ways. With quiet dignity and an always-professional work ethic, Sue takes care of it all with a smile. As the director of the Angels Program at the Waterville Opera House she organizes the volunteers and makes sure we have who and what we need. On those occasions when a last-minute challenge presents itself, Sue is always prepared to do the job herself, and many times she has. Her work at the opera house also includes sitting on the Programming Committee where she assists in bringing quality acts to Waterville, as well as organizing a teen acting group for high school students.
Sue exemplifies the word “volunteer.” We are privileged to be associated with her.
