REM Award Honorees (2016) — Daniel Burgess (United Way of Mid-Maine)
From serving on the Board of Directors, being involved in our Community Impact Teams, participating on one of several integral committees, volunteering to help raise funds, and helping run successful events, hundreds of people throughout Mid-Maine show their caring by volunteering with United Way of Mid-Maine.
One shining-star example of the dedication, leadership, and enthusiasm of the great volunteers at United Way is Daniel W. Burgess, the highly respected Vice President & Chief Information Officer at MaineGeneral Health. Remarkably, Danny also finds the time and energy to volunteer on multiple boards and committees, and has coached local sports teams, and coached an adult league softball team for many years. He plies his musical talents as guitarist and vocalist of a local band with a dedicated following, Absolute Zero, and the band is a major supporter of United Way!
Danny has been a member of the Board of Directors at United Way Mid-Maine since 2012. With his awesome wife Lisa, he served as Leadership Circle Co-Chair for United Way’s 2015-2016 Fundraising Campaign, and they are both serving as our 2016-2017 Campaign Co-Chairs. Danny chairs the Meeting Immediate Human Needs Community Impact Team, which oversees two key United Way of Mid-Maine initiatives: the Food Pantry Project, addressing the issues of year-round food security and access to healthy foods; and Keeping Mid-Maine Warm, addressing access to emergency fuel assistance and weatherization services.
Many say that the key to Danny’s effective leadership is his infectious enthusiasm. His own heartfelt commitment gets others engaged in supporting our community. His ardent support brings out the best in the people around him.
In honor of his tireless and enthusiastic support and focused and encouraging leadership, United Way of Mid-Maine is pleased to choose Daniel W. Burgess to be our recipient of the 2016 REM Award.
