REM Award Honorees (2001) — Diane Cosseboom (Waterville Business and Professional Women)

Diane Cosseboom was born in Skowhegan, Maine and went to high school there. She is a widow with two grown children.

Diane started her own business, Fashions Consignment Clothing, after her husband passed away. The business has grown over the years and presently is established in a large house on Upper Main Street in Waterville. She employs five women who all state that she is very flexible, allowing them to take time off for their families. Diane was chosen last year as Waterville BPW’s Business Woman of the Year because of her success with her new business and her help to the community. She donates all clothes that don’t sell within a certain time to Ken-a-Set. She also donates appropriate clothes to area nursing homes for their residents, including ball gowns. These latter donations are much appreciated as most nursing homes have at least one formal dance a year. The Waterville BPW helped out at one of these balls last year for “Make A Difference Day” and members had an opportunity to see that the gowns are truly appreciated.

Diane helps the Aspire Program help single young women get on their feet. She assists them with picking out clothes that are suitable for school, work, and the all-important job interview. Diane has served as a volunteer for the Hospice Auxiliary and the PTA, treasurer for a civic association, a den mother for Cub Scouts, and was an eighth-grade fundraiser for school trips.

Although Diane only joined Waterville BPW in April of 2001, she has already done a lot for our organization. She is currently our corresponding secretary, serves on several committees, including that forour most important fundraiser, our annual Christmas Auction. Two fashion shows which she produced for meeting programs emphasizing “Dressing for Success” were a great success.

The Waterville BPW appreciates all that Diane has done for our local organization and the community as a whole.
