REM Award Honorees (2003) — Betty Spaulding (Humane Society Waterville Area)
We are happy and proud to introduce Betty Spaulding as this year’s honoree for the Humane Society. Betty has been a real asset and we want everyone to know how much we appreciate all she does for the staff and the animals. Betty is always willing to take on any task asked of her. She does everything from emptying litter pans, to stuffing envelopes, to being the Plant Chair of our annual Book and Plant sale. Betty jumped in with both feet and did an awesome job. She does all this with a smile and great enthusiasm.
“My name is Betty Spaulding. I decided to volunteer at the Waterville Animal Shelter because of my love for animals. Of all the animals, working with the cats and kittens is my favorite job. I like to help the staff clean the cat area, which is a task that is necessary every day. In my spare time, I also knit ‘kitt’ blankets for the animals to lie on in their crates. In March we adopted a beautiful black cat named Rachael. She is a wonderful pet and we love her very much.
“I am married to LeBaron Spaulding and we live in Winslow, Maine. We have two grown daughters, who are both married. We also have two special granddaughters, named Brittany and Lindsay. Other hobbies I enjoy are gardening, walking and reading.”
