REM Award Honorees (2006) — Ken Quirion (Hospice Volunteers of Waterville Area)
Ken Quirion of Winslow has volunteered for Hospice Volunteers of Waterville Area since 2000 – first as a trained Certified Hospice Volunteer, then as a committee member for special events and building and grounds. Most recently he serves on our Board of Directors.
Ken is always available to us any time of the day or evening. In addition to volunteering for Hospice, Ken spreads good will across the community through service with other organizations and personal contacts. We cannot begin to know all that Ken does in the community – at times he seems to be everywhere at once!
As a Certified Hospice Volunteer Ken goes way above the call of duty. He transports clients to appointments, sits with the dying, assists with household chores and provides lots of encouragement and emotional support wherever he goes.
Ken’s dedication as a committee member is extraordinary. He routinely donates equipment and supplies for our Center and makes connections on our behalf to get the big jobs and events done that used to seem way beyond our grasp!
When Ken makes a commitment you know you can count on him to come through. We are most grateful for his humanity and for his passion for Hospice and the people we serve!
Editor’s Note: Ken Quirion was previously honored by the Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter in 2001, making him the first person in the history of the REM Community Awards to be honored by different organizations in different years.
