REM Award Honorees (2007) — Kelly Giles (Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter)
Part of what keeps the Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter running effectively is our great group of volunteers. Among that group is one lady who stands out by demonstrating dedication, a caring heart, and a willingness to help out those in need.
Kelly Giles has been volunteering at the shelter for the past two years. She shows up every Monday evening, after working all day at her full-time job. She helps the evening staff prepare and serve dinner for 18 shelter guests, then assists with kitchen clean-up, or other tasks that need to be done. She has a friendly smile and sense of humor that puts the guests at ease. Each Monday before she leaves, she always asks, “Is there anything else you want me to do?”
Kelly lives in Waterville and works at Bank of America. She enjoys working with people, hence her interest in helping the homeless population. She loves spending time with her family and friends. Kelly is an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots, and attends live games whenever possible.
The Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter takes pride in honoring Kelly Giles with the REM Community Volunteer Award for 2007. This is our way of showing our appreciation for all she has brought to our shelter. Congratulations Kelly!
