REM Award Honorees (2008) — Mary Hammond (Waterville Business and Professional Women)

Mary A. Hammond is currently Vice President and Human Resources Officer at Kennebec Savings Bank, where she has worked for over ten years.

Mary has been an active member of Waterville BPW since August, 1989, when her mother-in-law and 2005 REM Award honoree Jeanne Hammond encouraged her to join the organization. As a member, Mary has served in various offices on the local chapter level as well as Recording Secretary on the State level. She has helped coordinate programs for the year, chaired several committees, served on various fundraisers for BPW, and is currently serving as Treasurer of Waterville Business and Professional Women. She also assembles the “kids’ packs” which are given to the Waterville District Court to distribute to the children of parents who need to report to court. These “survival kits” provide activities, a snack and a drink to help them pass the time while they are waiting.

In addition to all her work for Waterville BPW, Mary has also been active in volunteering through her work at Kennebec Savings Bank where she has volunteered for Bowl For Kids Sake, served on the committee for the March of Dimes Walk for Babies, helped with the American Lung Association Trek Across Maine, the Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce Whatever Week, the Winslow 4th of July Parade, the KVYMCA Rise ‘N Shine Road Race, and the Maine Children’s Home Christmas Giving Project. Mary also contributed ten years of service to the Board of Directors of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kennebec Valley and she is presently a member of the Society of Human Resource Management and the Kennebec Valley Human Resources Association.

Mary lives in Albion with her husband Michael and her eight-year-old son Ethan. She enjoys being a participating member of the surrounding Waterville area and even with a very busy job and a family, she has proved to be a role model to all of us, showing you can have a high powered job, volunteer, and also have a family.

Waterville Business and Professional Women is proud to honor Mary as its REM Award recipient!
