REM Award Honorees (2009) — Gary Taylor (Inland Hospital)
Inland Hospital is proud to honor Gary Taylor as its Volunteer of the Year. For three years, Gary has been a helper in the Materials Management department on Fridays. He helps Inland stay on top of the many supplies that are needed throughout the hospital to care for patients and the community. From bandages to envelopes, Gary delivers medical supplies and other stock with a warm greeting and positive attitude — always the role model for five-star service!
Gary volunteers while still working full-time at Huhtamaki. He began as a pipe fitter 36 years ago and presently is a stock room receiver in the Materials Management department Monday through Thursday, so his stock room experience has made him a valuable volunteer asset at Inland. His wife works on Fridays, and his children are grown, so he says the time was right for a volunteer position in the community. He chose Inland.
“I watched the wonderful care that my father-in-law received at Inland and all the volunteer help involved — that’s how I made up my mind that Inland was the place where I wanted to give back,” notes Gary. “My placement in the Materials Management department is fun, I get to meet many great people throughout the day and I feel part of the Inland family.”
The Winslow resident says his volunteer experience at Inland is very rewarding. “That my time and efforts make a difference to the facility and staff makes me very proud. And the friendships I have gained can’t be bought or sold.”
Gary has truly become a part of the team at Inland. “We could not imagine our week without Gary,” says Joe Theriault, Director of Inland’s Materials Management department. “He’s a hard worker and takes his volunteer duties seriously — he helps our department stay efficient and responsive to the many hospital departments that need supplies to care for patients and conduct daily business.”
He is a humble person and was surprised when he was named Volunteer of the Year. “What a great honor,” Gary said. “It is only because of the great folks at Inland that I am here.”
