REM Award Honorees (2013) — Marie LeClair (Hospice Volunteers)
Hospice Volunteers of Waterville Area is pleased to have Marie LeClair as its REM Award honoree this year. Marie LeClair is dedicated to improving Waterville with a smile and hard work. She is widely known for her volunteer efforts in the community and her “go getter” attitude.
Marie has been volunteering for many years in our community. From 1997 to 2008, Marie volunteered for the Salvation Army ringing a bell at Christmas time. Marie also volunteered for the Salvation Army from 2007 to 2008 as a Christmas gift shopper and wrapper.
In October of 2009 Marie became an HVWA Certified Hospice Volunteer. Since then, she has been a Direct Care Volunteer. Marie continues to volunteer at Inland Hospital and visits her aunt and others in local nursing homes weekly.
In the spring of 2012 Hospice Volunteers of Waterville Area found itself in need of additional revenue to support its current programs. During this period, the idea of a Resale Shop was born. It soon became clear that we needed a Chair for the Resale Shop Committee. Marie’s name was suggested to me and we immediately phoned her to see if she would be interested. Thank goodness she said yes!
Marie has been a blessing. Marie has taken over the shop. Marie volunteers at least 20 hours a week lining up volunteers, overseeing the shop, securing and picking up donations, and making sure that the media keeps us on their radar. Marie has personally delivered flyers all over Waterville as well as to surrounding communities.
What makes Marie stand out is her positive impact on the lives of others. Marie’s biggest gift is the care that she shows to her volunteers and the gift of her time and talents that she donates to the community. We are blessed to have Marie as the Chair of the Resale Shop volunteer team as well as a direct care volunteer.
