REM Award Honorees (2015) — Margaret Gayne (Maine Children’s Home)
Since joining the volunteer force at The Maine Children’s Home for Little Wanderers, Margaret (“Peggy”) Gayne has become a valuable member of our team.
Working year-round, Peggy logs, stocks, and organizes inventory, often taking smaller items home to arrange into beautiful sets in gift bags for the children we serve each holiday season. She also takes used baby clothing home to wash to keep our Teen Parent Lending Closet well stocked. In addition, Peggy is always ready to help with a bulk mailing; assist with the annual Lobster Roll Lunch, Easter Egg Hunt, or Yard Sale; and is at every special event, doing anything from pouring wine to taking tickets. Peggy is an avid baker, as well. She loves to keep our break room stocked with treats at Christmas time for our volunteers.
Peggy is a great model of what a volunteer should be, always doing what is asked of her cheerfully and adjusting to the many characteristics and personalities that come with this kind of work. We truly appreciate everything she does for the Maine Children’s Home.
