REM Award Honorees (2015) — Debbie Byrne (United Way of Mid-Maine)
United Way of Mid-Maine wishes to honor Debbie Byrne with the 2015 REM Award for her selfless commitment to volunteerism and improving the lives of others. Debbie is the Financial Manager of CENTURY 21 Surette Real Estate in Waterville, where her husband, Michael, is the president. She is a graduate of Thomas College with over thirty years of experience in financial, healthcare, and real estate accounting.
With an infectious passion for helping others, Debbie brought her “team first” mentality to our Campaign Cabinet, co-chairing both our 2012-2013 Campaign and our 2013-2014 Leadership Circle efforts, while reminding us that opening doors creates hope. Debbie’s social demeanor and simple belief, “If you can, you should,” has inspired a new wave of United Way volunteers who share her enthusiasm for helping others.
Debbie has also served on our Meeting Immediate Human Needs Community Impact Team, spearheading projects like the Food Pantry Project, Keeping Mid-Maine Warm, and Youth Homelessness Initiative. In addition, she has contributed her career skills in finance to the Central Maine CA$H Coalition as an IRS Certified Volunteer Tax Preparer.
Bringing leadership, reliability, and enthusiasm, Debbie is an incredible person who has contributed to our organization in every possible avenue. We are lucky to welcome Debbie’s guidance again this year, as she serves our next board chair.
Debbie lives in Winslow with her husband, with whom she has three adult children, Erik, Amanda, and Kevin. She enjoys cooking, reading, engaging in outdoor activities, and spending quality time with her family.
She extends a big thank-you to the team at United Way for making this Community Award possible, while sending special recognition to her husband and teammate, “It is because of Mike’s hard work and dedication to his job that allows me the opportunity to volunteer in the community; we truly do make a good team.”
Thank you Debbie for your countless contributions to United Way of Mid-Maine. You have proven that great things happen when we Live United!
